Microsoft has come up with a cool name for their Migration Wizard on Vista for those using XP or Windows 2003 and its called Alohabob which sounds like a Hawaiian nerd. When it comes to transferring data and applications between Windows version, its been a tiresome journey as third party tools are more stabil and favourable compared to the default tools on Windows. It is said that Alohabob will make the application transfer experience easier and faster for customers, which is something Mac users have been enjoying for some time now…..Lets wait and see.

Microsoft is planning to release its recently acquired application migration technology, known as Alohabob, along with the first release candidate for Windows Vista later this quarter. Microsoft acquired the Alohabob technology with the purchase earlier in 2006 of application-transfer specialist Apptimum. At that time, Microsoft said its plans for Apptimum’s intellectual property and technology assets were focused on streamlining the application transfer process between older and newer computers, with an emphasis on Window’s Vista migration.

How about another one of those PR blunders at a Microsoft site ? This time its on Microsoft Canada’s site and what Engadget managed to scoop up at “Ed Bott’s Microsoft Report” over at ZDNet blogs is the pricing on Vista packages coming end of 2006…..It’s a lot of money for those still using pirated software…Be ready to fork out some cash. I hope it won’t be that expensive over here in Asia.

Now all I want for Christmas is a free upgrade to Vista for my Windows XP…Anyone care to sponsor me ??? I have 2 laptops to take care of.

In the next few weeks, good old MS will be releasing the RC1 build of Vista but if you can’t wait, then you may already have the new Vista Pre-RC1 Build if you are one of the lucky select ones. Judging the response so far from the Windows enthusiast sites out there, the performance and installation speed of this Vista release is pretty fine if you ask me. Now all I need to do is try to get my old Pentium 1 PC out and trying booting this Vista….if its possible.

Officially pegged as Build 5536.16385, the preview of Release Candidate 1 (RC1) marks significant progress toward the final, Microsoft claimed. “We have made a lot of progress since Beta 2 and 5472, and we think you will notice the quality improvements that we’ve been seeing in the daily builds,” wrote Nick White, a Vista program manager, on the group’s blog.

Dell hopes Vista will improve their sales of laptops that have suffered recently while HP’s revenue increases. Unless Dell comes out with some bells and whistles that differentiate their models from other vendors, it won’t make such a difference as people might not want to shell out more on Vista. I’m sure a lot of people are contended with their XP OS just like me.

MAKER OF of exploding laptops, Michael Dell said that he is banking on Microsoft’s Vista making an improvement in his outfit’s sales. Dell sales have been suffering a bit lately, much to the joy of HP which has been taking business off them. But Michael, who is in Australia, was telling hacks down under that all will be well soon.
